Henley MBA Research Project – Carol Taylor

Published: 13/12/2015

We are forwarding this to you on behalf of one of Women in Mining South Africa’s members, Carol Taylor, as part of her MBA. The results from this survey will be incorporated into WiMSA’s research for 2016. Although the questions are similar to the 2015 WiMSA survey, your input will be greatly appreciated.
The difference is that Carol is also targeting men’s perceptions, and we would appreciate if you could forward this mail to your colleagues and friends.

This research project investigates the South African Mining Industry’s readiness to embrace Gender Diversity at Management and Board levels.

The aim of the research is to help gain insights into why South African women mining professionals are few in management positions, and why the Mining Industry is still behind on local and international norms for diverse work forces. This is despite the government calling for quotas of women as required by South African Mining legislation and some mining organisations embracing this in their policies.

Insights gathered may open dialogue forums for value derivation for all genders/stakeholders and inform stakeholders on how to tackle this issue. In order to achieve this, a qualitative questionnaire has been designed targeting both Males and Females from Junior to Executive Management.

The research forms part of Carol’s MBA academic qualification at Henley Business School at the University of Reading. If you are working in South Africa or have worked in South Africa please participate in this research. Please feel free to pass on to others in the mining industry to take on the survey.

Responses are anonymous and confidential and individual respondents are NOT identifiable by name or organisation, NEITHER in the submissions NOR the final report. The project has been subject to ethical review in accordance with the procedures specified by the University of Reading Research Ethics Committee and has been given a favourable ethical opinion for conduct.

By completing and returning the Online Questionnaire it will be understood that you are aged 18 or over and that you give consent for your responses to be used for the purposes of this research project.

Results will be published through the research and will also be availed to WiMSA, an organisation interested in the well-being and advancement of its professional members in Mining.

Many thanks for your support.
