Anglo American released a video about women in mining

Anglo American has released a video aimed at showing the opportunities open to women at its mining operations.

The video features women working at Anglo’s metallurgical coal operations discuss how they made their way into the mining industry.

Gabrielle Horn, an automotive electrical apprentice, said she was working in hospitality when she saw an ad by Anglo in the local newspaper. “My dad encouraged me to apply and I got to choose what position I wanted,” Horn said. love coming to work, things change every day so it’s always a different situation. “

Claire Stevens, a technical services superintendent at Grasstree mine, said she actively sought a role in an underground mine because she was fascinated with how it worked. Stevens said Anglo is a great company to work for that gives its employees the chance to grow and learn new skills. “If I want to develop professionally I think that Anglo American offers everything that I could need,” Stevens said. “I feel like I grow every single day professionally, I really enjoy coming to work.”

Horn said a career in the mining industry was all about getting your foot in the door. “There are always pathways that you can take to get where you want,” Horn advises. “You might have to start in admin if you want an operators jobs or you might want an apprenticeship and go up to engineering like I am. There are always opportunities and ways that you can get to your goal.”
