More about us:
International Women in Mining (IWiM) currently has 9,700+ members from over 100 countries. We connect with and support 45+ WIM groups around the world.
IWiM aims to be the leading global platform for all women in mining via initiatives that improve worldwide diversity and foster women’s professional development in the mining industry.
We are currently developing projects to:
Increase the number of women serving on boards via our Women on Boards webinar programme;
Increase the number of women presenting at mining conferences via IWiMSpeakUp project; and
Improve the representation of women in the industry via our Photo campaign.
IWiM provides information, links to resources and facilitates lively discussions on issues important to women working in the industry.
IWiMSpeakUp is looking for an outgoing and energetic Conference Liaison to support the growth of this exciting project – is this you? The main role of the Conference Liaison is to create new and maintain existing relationships with mining conferences around the world. We want to keep creating opportunities for our members to participate as speakers on panels so that in a near future all-male line-ups will be a thing of the past!
The individual selected would have a lot of latitude in finding the approach that works for them, but mainly involves:
1) researching reputable conferences and who organises them,
2) contacting the organisers and pitching our value proposition and finding areas of mutual interest,
3) continually engaging by placing our members into speaker slots and staying informed about new speaking opportunities,
4) maintain existing relationships with members and events managers.
Time commitment: 2-5 hours per week
Web Content Coordinator
Our ideal person is interested in news and information and ready to help us keep our website updated and fresh.
We are looking for an individual with some website management experience, preferably WordPress and experience in formatting or editing to:
Add blog posts and articles to the website – seek out original content and relevant news items
Publish the monthly profile interview
Update and fix pages where needed
Communicate with social media and other IWiM teams
Assist with campaigns and other ad hoc work
Time commitment: ~3 hours a week
Do you know WordPress inside out and coding expertise?
The expert would:
Contribute ideas on improving the look of our website
Create new layouts and webpages on WordPress
Troubleshoot issues as they come up
Have knowledge of css, html, php, etc.
Time commitment: 5 hours+ a week and easily reachable in case of emergency
Web Manager – IT
Looking for a hands on individual who will help us maintain our ever growing website.
Make sure plugins are working and are updated regularly
Other website maintenance
Occasionally some web development
Knowledge of WordPress essential and ideally some coding ability
Knowledge of Woocommerce & web hosting
Time commitment: 3 hours per week+ and easily reachable in case of emergency
We’re looking for a newsletter coordinator(s) to pull together and publish a regular newsletter (every two months) that incorporates highlights about women in mining. We already have a pre-existing template on MailChimp so your level of ‘tech-savvyness’ doesn’t have to be NASA/Hidden Figures grade – but we know our members include some really switched on women, so who knows!
Candidates should have experience in editing web-based page layouts, understand design, have experience coordinating mass mailings and editing/copywriting for email-based publications. Specific newsletter or mass email application experience is not required, though familiarity with one or two generally is expected.
Time commitment: More intensive around publication time, but easier if work spread over the month.
Are you outgoing and do you love interacting with people?
The objective as Membership Manager is to keep our growing global WIM community dynamic. You would engage with our 9,700+ members and improve how we share, communicate and learn from each other – across our different platforms.
You will be working closely with all other teams at IWiM and you will put together a membership strategy and be responsible for delivering it.
Previous project management experience would be relevant.
Time commitment: This will probably require time at the beginning but once the ground work has been completed we believe the time requirement should reduce to 5-7 hours per week. If several people apply, tasks could be split which would reduce the time commitment and increase creative ideas.
Are you well organised? Good at project management, efficient working and people management?
Our head honcho Barbara needs someone to help her keep all the balls in the air so that she can focus more on her external facing role and project development. You would assist her in managing the day-to-day operation of IWiM as well as onboarding and ongoing relationship with volunteers (and teams). This is an incredibly valued position and provides excellent experience in how a large organisation operates and remains connected.
Time commitment: a strong commitment of 10 hours+ per week
Social Media Savvy Volunteers
We’re looking for social media savvy volunteers to join our team in promoting IWiM across Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
Can you spare an hour or two a week to help drive the debate on things we care about; events we’d like everyone to know about and share content that our members would like to hear about?
Ideally you are confident on one or all of these platforms and will have used tools like Hootsuite or Tweetdeck before.
Maybe you are a data-whizz and can create infographics or enjoy making gifs, memes, slideshows and word clouds.
We’re looking for helpers across the time zones to keep on top of what’s happening to international #womeninmining.
Why don’t you get in touch and tell us how you can help. We’d love to hear from you.
The treasurer’s role would be to monitor cash flow and to help prepare documentation for our yearly accounts. You would also liaise with the accountant and represent IWiM.
You don’t have to be an accountant or in a financial role in your present career but being good with numbers comes with the job. There is the possibility to also act as our Company Secretary.
Time commitment: This position isn’t work intensive. Generally 5 hours per month but closer to submitting accounts and annual AGM (for company secretary) the work load might increase.
Location: Ideally you will be in London, England. IWiM is registered in the UK so our accountants are here and the organisation follows UK legislation.
We need legal skills and competence to add to the team mix to help us comply with our legal obligations, help with contracts and other matters. You could help us either ad hoc when needs arise or join the team. Time commitment is difficult to define and would vary.
Location: Ideally you will be based in London, England as IWiM is registered in the United Kingdom.
Australian Indigenous WIM LinkedIn Group Moderator
We are looking for someone to manage the Australian Indigenous WIM group on LinkedIn by sharing content, starting and contributing (to) discussions, inviting people to join and sharing best practice and case studies. This person should be very connected to indigenous developments and have great networking skills and social media awareness. This is a very exciting time for Indigenous Australia and we want to make sure the rest of the world (and Australia) knows what is happening.
Time commitment: 2-3 hours per week
Our small but dynamic research team punches above its weight for international research and publications. We are getting approached more and more to either collaborate or lead research and we want to give academics, students and just great writers the opportunity to be involved. You would be adding to our body of research by: initiating research projects and papers; identifying collaboration opportunities with universities, NGOs, companies, government and civil society; highlighting new articles and providing weblinks. Researchers are encouraged to develop strong networks with journal editors, academics researchers and anyone writing interesting stuff that IWiM members should know about.
All of these roles can be done remotely wherever you are based.
