Dear mining industry communicators and friends:
Most of you know about the successful fund-raising that Women in Mining groups across Canada have done, particularly for cancer research and treatment in the last decade. Between WIM Toronto and WIM Vancouver, we have raised a lot of money to fight cancer.
The WIM Toronto branch is in the last stages of raising donations for the OneWalk event on September 10, benefitting the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. Our team of 18 people has almost reached its goal of $125,000 this year, from almost 200 donors. This is in addition to the $750,000 that WIM Toronto teams have raised for this event in the last nine years (since 2007). As you can see, we are within striking distance of reaching $1,000,000 next year!
We are currently the top corporate team in the walk, just ahead of Team RBC! We have already received donations from major and intermediate mining companies including Agnico Eagle, Barrick, Goldcorp, Kinross, Lundin and Uranium One, as well as law firms, consultants and other corporate sponsors. You can check out team rankings at http://to16.onewalk.ca/site/Pa geServer/?pagename=to16_homepa ge.
What we want to do now is raise awareness about what we are doing through the media and social media. We would appreciate it if you could spread the word among your readers, members, etc. Below are our social media handles:
