After 1 year of working solidly on the first international mentoring programme we had our big launch in Canada on the 6th of March at PDAC in collaboration with Women in Mining Canada. This is IWiM’s commitment to #PressforProgress
We launched with a final cohort of 42 women on the programme from student to senior mid-career level across technical, operational and corporate functions. Mentees are from 16 different countries: 6 from Australia, 9 from Canada, 1 from Chile, 1 from Republic of Congo, 6 from Ghana, 2 from Guyana, 2 from Mexico, 1 from Mongolia, 1 from Namibia, 5 from South Africa, 2 from Spain, 1 from Tanzania, 2 foreigners based in the UK, 1 from the USA, 1 from Zambia and 1 from Zimbabwe.
Mentor cohort is also international including Canada, Australia, USA, UK, South Africa, Mongolia and Togo and is composed of both men and women.
It was such an amazing training day, full of emotion and positive energy!! Incredible!! We had half the mentees and half the mentors present, more than we expected be with us in person and many sponsors with us at the evening reception. Each mentee has such an amazing story.
Everyone was keen and excited: mentees, mentors and sponsors. Seeing everyone so involved in the programme made it more than worthwhile.
Testimonials from mentees
“It was so great to meet you both yesterday and meeting such wonderful women from across the world at so diverse time and places in their respective careers. I’m really looking forward to the next seven months and want to thank you both for your leadership and dedication to this initiative.”
“Thank you so much for all of your hard work in putting today’s mentorship program together. It was so clear how much time and effort went into every party, and I greatly appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the program and meet you all as well as the other mentees and mentors.”
Testimonial from a mentor
“It was great. I enjoyed the launch talk and took a lot away from it. I’m inspired. I’ve started notes, I am hoping it can be the start of a new book, one which every young lady should read. Thank you for putting my name forward to be a mentor.”
Thank you all again to all our sponsors!
