She replaces Jason Kuchel, who announced plans to depart in July, after nearly a decade in the role.
Knol will step into the position on 17 November.
Commenting on her appointment, SACOME president Terry Burgess said, “The enthusiastic response from the recruitment process has demonstrated that SACOME is held in high regard as the peak resources industry body in South Australia.”
“Rebecca will bring fresh insight to the Chamber, which will build on the already strong foundation to deliver increased benefits to our members, and new directions for the industry.”
Knol has an extensive background across the mining and oil & gas space as a consultant, and was awarded a Churchill Fellowship researching international trends and practices in mine closure, which led to the development of State and National Guidelines for mine closure planning in Australia.
“Her experience in mining operations in Africa and Australia, and gas energy projects in Australia Pacific has given her the opportunity to manage HSE, External Relations & Community Relations teams,” SACOME said.
“In Adelaide, Rebecca was National Manager for Major Projects with Origin Energy and was responsible for the regulatory approvals of renewables and gas projects in Australia & New Zealand.”
Knol said she is delighted with the appointment to SACOME, and “looks forward to leading SACOME’s active participation in the advancement of the sector at a time when the economy grapples with the need for growth and de-carbonisation, and the industry is engaging on an unprecedented level with all areas of the community.”
Kuchel is leaving the industry to step into the role of CEO of the Wakefield Regional Council.
