This project has identified practical tools to enable Indigenous peoples to approve and regulate mining activities on their lands. It recognizes that existing provincial mining laws are antiquated, out of alignment with international Indigenous human rights standards, and also, not going to be changed overnight. By proposing practical approaches that Indigenous peoples can use to insert their values and voices into the existing state legal and policy framework, this project makes an important contribution to the assertion of Indigenous laws and sovereignty.
