IWIM appoints two new Board Directors who will act as Co-Chairs, modelling the next generation of inclusive leadership
IWIM, the global not-for-profit advancing equity across the mining and mineral value chain, is delighted to announce the appointment of Nelson Trejo and Stuart Hayton to its Governance Board, following an international search led by Alexis Bird, Partner – Mining & Process Industries, and Danielle Hatton, Principal – Natural Resources at Granger Reis. Together, the new leaders combine operational, commercial, and governance expertise spanning the entire mineral value chain, reinforcing IWIM’s role as a catalyst for systemic equity and responsible growth.
Nelson Trejo is President, Parts and Services Division (North and South America) at Epiroc, based in Dallas, Texas. With over two decades of leadership experience across global markets, Nelson has held senior roles in general management, aftersales, manufacturing, supply chain, and business transformation within the industrial and mining sectors. He is recognised for his ability to drive innovation, lead high-performing teams, and deliver sustainable growth across complex, multinational operations. A passionate advocate for equity and inclusion, Nelson has served on Epiroc’s Global Inclusion and Diversity Board, where he has helped shape initiatives such as global parental leave and mentoring programmes for women in mining.
Stuart Hayton is a senior executive with over a decade of leadership experience in the global mining and industrial technology sectors. As Managing Director at Weir Minerals Netherlands and Divisional Vice President Comminution at Weir Group, Stuart has driven significant transformation, commercial growth, and operational excellence. He is recognised for his strategic vision, customer-centric approach, and authentic commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Stuart is an active member of Weir Group’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion executive steering committee.
The appointments mark a significant moment for IWIM and for the sector, by bringing IWIM’s board to near gender parity and introducing a co-chair model designed to enhance global reach, continuity, and cross-sector influence. Male co-chairs remain rare in global mining, and this shared model reflects IWIM’s belief that equity must involve everyone.
IWIM, Granger Reis and the newly appointed co-chairs had the following to say:
Stuart Hayton: “Joining the board of IWIM is a deeply personal milestone. Throughout my career, I’ve seen how diversity—across gender, culture, background, and thought—can unlock innovation, resilience and all-round better business. I’m proud to support IWIM’s mission to build a more inclusive industry where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”
Nelson Trejo: I’m honoured to join the IWIM board to help shape a new era of inclusive, regenerative leadership in mining—one that heals systems rather than manages them and restores life, equality, and the earth”.
IWIM: “This expansion represents IWIM’s next stage of leadership — inclusive, collaborative, and future-focused. By modelling equity at governance level, we demonstrate that shared responsibility and partnership drive real industry transformation.”
Granger Reis: “We are delighted to partner with IWIM again on the appointment of their new Governance Board Directors. At Granger Reis, we are committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the natural resources sector, and we are proud to partner with organisations that share this vision. We look forward to seeing the continued impact of IWIM’s work as the organisation enters its next chapter.
The expanded Governance Board provides a robust foundation for succession planning, strengthens international partnerships, including with owners and OEM leaders, and reinforces IWIM’s ability to influence policy and practice throughout the sector. The co-chair model enables coverage across time zones and markets, ensuring sustained advocacy and continuity of leadership.“
