Recipients of the Diversity Award attend ceremony in Darwin, Australia.

Our Newmont Women’s Network Tanami (NWNT) group won the Excellence in Diversity Programs and Performance award for:

  • Improving the recruitment and retention of women across the operation
  • Facilitating information and development sessions for female employees
  • Working on a mentoring program to help women develop and progress their careers in the mining industry by offering a mentoring network, career guidance and development and access to educational opportunities

In addition, Tim Hewitt, Tanami Mining Manager, was named the 2015 Gender Diversity Champion for his work to attract, retain and promote women at our Tanami Operations. Newmont was nominated in four out of six award categories including the Outstanding Tradeswoman/Operator/Technician and the Exceptional Young Woman in Resources awards.

In her acceptance speech on behalf of the NWNT, Kimberley Giles, Project Resource Geologist, thanked the Tanami leadership team, especially Tim Hewitt, for their support. Tim was honored by the award and said, “I want to reinforce the message that without the diversity we have on site, our operation would not be as successful as it is.”
Newmont’s diversity efforts continue to receive recognition around the world.

On the other side of the world, Newmont’s efforts to improve diversity also have been recognized through a Corporate Salute Award from the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce. This award was given to the company for having three female directors on our Board of Directors.Across the company, Newmont continues building business resource groups (BRGs) tailored to women, veterans, multicultural, and millennial generation employees, among others, in order to foster the exchange of ideas and create a more diverse and inclusive culture.
