The Canadian Chamber of Commerce has reported that by the year 2020, Canada will be short one million workers in natural resources. The Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) believes that Aboriginal women can play integral roles in this industry by filling the growing need for skilled workers in the sector. For this to happen, employers in the industry must be made aware that with proper training and environments that are supportive, Aboriginal women can fill these labour shortages. In addition, Aboriginal women need to be made of aware of these non-traditional employment opportunities so that they can become active participants in this sector.
