Position Overview
Bechtel Mining & Metals are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to be based in our Brisbane office and work on our ERA Ranger Rehabilitation project.
After more than 35 years’ operating as a successful uranium mine, the Ranger Project is entering its rehabilitation stage and offers an exciting opportunity for you to make a positive impact on the environment.
ERA has engaged the global engineering firm, Bechtel, to support ERA as Delivery Partner for ongoing study work. Bechtel are working alongside ERA and major stakeholder Rio Tinto to restore the land to the status of its surrounding World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park.
A collaborative project, this project will be developed in consultation with the Mirarr Traditional Owners and will benefit the Jabiru community. Located 8 km east of Jabiru and 260 km south-east of Darwin, the Ranger Project will lead the way in the fast-growing area of mining closures.

What You’ll Be Doing:
In your new role, you will scope, plan and lead the development of mechanical design processes, based on knowledge of mechanical and related equipment technologies and best practices.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Manage and contribute to the production of mechanical designs, P&IDs, key equipment sizing/selection
- Coordinate efforts with other stakeholders
- Conduct and manage trade-off studies and assessments to identify the go-forward process scope
What You’re Good At:
Recognized by your peers as skilled, experienced and knowledgeable in process design for the minerals industry, you are a qualified engineer ideally chartered and with RPEQ registration.
With excellent communication skills, you will be adept in working collaboratively, building relationships and engaging with clients.
You will be experienced in applying process test work to develop the process design and process equipment selection/sizing, with technical knowledge of engineering methods, systems and calculations and hazard identification processes such as HAZID and HAZOP. Experience in water / wastewater processing either from operations or commissioning / plant start-up would be highly regarded.
