About Thompson Creek Mine
The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometres southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho’s Custer County.
In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.
Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About The Opportunity
We are looking for a Specialist, Industrial Hygiene to join our Thompson Creek team.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develops, implements, and evaluates programs and procedures to ensure personnel and facility safety to prevent chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
- Monitors and controls Company’s safety and health standards under state and federal MSHA regulations.
- Maintains working knowledge of new developments in the industry and in governmental health and safety regulations.
- Assists in investigating industrial accidents to prevent recurrence.
- Develop and implement a system to track and evaluate worker injuries.
- Prepares and maintains reports, certificates, memos, letters, bulletins, minutes, and other safety related documents.
- Makes safety recommendations to management regarding findings of investigations, inspections, correct use of protective clothing, and other heath-related issues.
- Performs industrial hygiene monitoring to detect the presence of harmful substances and documents results.
- Maintains monitoring instrumentation and equipment.
- Compiles and analyzes data relating to occupational and environmental health issues such as chemical exposure, radiation, smoke, fumes, noise, temperatures, dusts, vapors, mists, gases, solvents, lighting, and ergonomics that are known or suspected of being potential detriments to health. Then recommends corrective measures to management.
- Develops or provides input to hazard communications, including maintaining material data sheets.
- Participates in training activities for EMT/ERT members.
- Work with the safety department on the chemical onboarding Process to ensure the proper precautions are taken to protect employees from hazards.
- Other duties as assigned.
About You
To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required:
- Must have a thorough understanding and knowledge of Company, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to amicably resolve conflicts arising from safety and health disputes.
- Must be a leader and motivator in safety.
- Must possess a strong background in industrial hygiene sampling, analyzing, evaluation, and documentation methods and practices.
- Must possess excellent computer skills and knowledge of related software applications.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related safety and health field required with 3-5 years directly related experience.
- Previous experience in mining considered a strong asset.
Critical thinking and critical thinking skills; ability to use logic and reasoning to analyze and identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
