IWRMP 2018 update

Published: 17/07/2018

In a collaboration between IWiM, WIMC and Metisphere, and with the support of many organisations we launched IWRMP 2018 at the Mining for Diversity Cocktail & Awards held at PDAC in Toronto on 6th March.

At the launch, forty-two (42) exceptional females from resources companies in Australia, Canada, Chile, Congo, Ghana, Guyana, Mexico, Mongolia, Namibia, South Africa, Spain, Tanzania, UK, USA, Zambia and Zimbabwe were inducted into the program along with their matched mentors. Mentees work in a variety of occupations such as mining engineer, dump truck operator and exploration geologist. Our forty-two mentors are influential senior leaders sourced from around the world who have a strong value, or desire, to see women succeed in the resources industry.

As we have reached the midway point for IWRMP 2018, I thought it may be useful to provide an update on our progress. Over the past three months mentees and mentors have been meeting regularly either online or in person to conduct mentoring sessions following their structured program framework. Many mentees have participated in three mentee group interactive webinars that focused on addressing career challenges, leadership, brand strategy and discussed topics for future mentoring sessions. Mentees have received tremendous value from the programme and all mentors have been very engaged.

Testimonials received to date:

Mentee: “I also love my sessions with my mentor, and yes I totally agree, it forces you to think about your career development. One of the things I liked the most in the past weeks, as “homework”, was to ask for feedback, as for feedback to your peers, to your supervisors, to your subordinates and broaden perspective. It has been very positive and empowering, and again showed me that communication in work teams is a must, and unfortunately we take these small things for granted.”

Mentee: “I also love speaking with my mentor. I’m going through some career changes this year and it’s really great to have someone to bounce ideas off of, and also to reassure progress. I also like being part of the program because it forces you to critically think about career development and goals and have the structure to implement them.”

Many programme mentees are achieving their milestones as outlined in their action plans and several are exceeding expectations.[/vc_column_text][vc_text_separator title=”Thank you to all our sponsors for making this opportunity happen”][vc_column_text]

[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]We have finalised plans for our second International Women in Resources Mentoring Programme (IWRMP) which will launch on Sunday, February 3rd, 2019 in Capetown, South Africa to coincide with Mining Indaba. The programme will follow the same structured framework from the 2018 programme, and mentees and mentors will again be matched manually for best results.

If you are interested in your female employees entering this fantastic programme contact us at barbara@internationalwim.org and we will schedule a call.

We are pleased to announce that Agnico Eagle and Goldcorp have reconfirmed their commitment.

This year we are offering two types of sponsorship: either mentoring only or a new combined partnership with IWiM which gives you access to all our projects and initiatives including mentoring.  Information on our sponsorship package can be view and downloaded here: IWRMP 2019 – Sponsorship.
