Job Description
CONTEXT
The purpose of the Marketing is to sustainably maximise cash flows from the marketing of Anglo American products and services. In support of this, we have set ourselves a target to deliver a considerable uplift in Value.
Commercial Strategy’s aim is to identify and prioritise where the Marketing business can add most value to Anglo American and define how to integrate these opportunities into the strategic roadmap. We act as thought partners to senior leaders, understanding, challenging and building on their requirements based on internal and external best practices, industry trends, and strategic mindsets.
PURPOSE
Identify and implement commercial value initiatives, ensuring Anglo American Marketing realises the full value from commodity commercial operations.
KEY TASKS
Strategy Development and Implementation
- Provide support to strategic-decision-making works and/or during strategy reviews
- Support identification of commercial and marketing value initiatives for Marketing BU and commodities
- Develop suitable commercial initiatives and value creation workshops/projects: project facilitate and drive commercial value initiatives jointly with the Heads of Sales and their teams to realise commercial opportunities and ensure cross-commodity commercial knowledge / best-practice sharing
- Undertake complex quantitative and qualitative analyses that facilitate the assessment of established commercial approaches and initiatives
- Initiate researches according to strategic themes, interpret potential implications to Anglo American and Marketing BU, propose action plans
- Coordinate works on Marketing sustainability, e.g. input into Group’s Climate Change Report, updates to the Responsible Sourcing Policy, continue explore the value capturing from our sustainability initiatives
- Build relationship with commodity teams, generate commercial insight and identify opportunities to support commodities in delivering their commercial priorities
Stakeholder Management
- Initiate working relationships beyond immediate team, fostering cross-commodity collaboration and synergies for the Marketing BU
- Manage and facilitate meetings with various stakeholders and drive them towards sustainable joint solutions that optimise value
Qualifications
Knowledge
- Minimal five years’ experience in strategy capacity within a large organisation and / or as an advisor from consulting group
- Solid experience in business planning, business modelling, desktop/external researches, forecasting and analysis
- Understanding / experience of commodity trading would be beneficial
- Ability to think longer-term and creatively; good in providing interpretive or predictive insights
- Comfortable with making logical hypothesis by limited information and capable to validate the assumptions by effective means
- Experience in working on projects, running workshops or facilitating forums is preferred
- Excellent compelling report writing, and seasoned presentation skills tailored to the specific needs and requirements of the audience
- Competent across the range of tools and frameworks of strategic and financial analysis
- Ability to understand perspective of multiple stakeholders; comfortable and skilful in providing constructive challenges
- Skillful at asking insightful and probing questions to get to the bottom of a situation or problem; doesn’t stop at the first answer
- Strong interpersonal skills and collaborate both within the team and into other teams to get the benefit of their perspectives, experience or expertise
- Results oriented, capable of holding self and others to account on delivery
- A good team player; happy to work as a part of the team rather than as an individual contributor, in many occasions
