Reporting to the Superintendent, Compliance and Management Systems, the Lead, Occupational Hygiene will be responsible for leading all aspects of the Occupational Health and Hygiene (OH&H) performance at HVC by providing mentorship on OH&H systems and programs. The position will support the operation in meeting OH&H improvement objectives by coordinating with line Management, Supervision, Workers, and Contractors. The position provides OH&H leadership and coordination to effectively run OH&H management systems.
Responsibilities:
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
- Initiate, develop, implement, and maintain physical and chemical exposure monitoring and assessment studies,
- Evaluate and interpret the data acquired from studies and recommend mitigation strategies
- Establish OH&H management systems and programs in alignment with Teck and regulatory requirements
- Facilitate the development, execution, and reporting of annual site exposure reduction plans
- Facilitate and participate in risk assessments and investigations related to OH&H exposures and support identification and implementation of improvement opportunities
- Provide technical OH&H advice and assistance to groups across the site
- Develop communications and present OH&H data and programs to vital team members
- Prepare, coordinate, and deliver technical training and informative presentations to the operation
- Maintain a constructive relationship with external and internal stakeholders
- Maintain current and accurate records of workplace exposures to supervise historical trends and provide reporting to key partners
- Be responsible for surveillance programs and use exposure supervising data to ensure appropriate workgroups are collected
- Coordinate external hygiene consultants and analysis services to ensure the quality of deliverables
- Represent the site on company OH&H committees
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree in Occupational Hygiene or related science degree
- Certified Industrial Hygienist Certificate from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene or Registered Occupational Hygienist from the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists
- Minimum of five years experience related to the evaluation and control of occupational exposures in an industrial environment
- Comprehensive validated understanding of applicable Health and Safety regulations and the ability to understand and interpret sophisticated mandatory regulations and their impact
- Familiar with the key aspects of safety leadership and the importance of influencing skills
- Highly effective interpersonal skills
- Experience in occupational hygiene data management systems is considered an asset

Salary Range: $103,000 – $127,000
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
