The Great Bear project is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district, and represents one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally. The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit that could support a large, long-life mine complex. Kinross’ comprehensive exploration and development program will aim to support the vision of a quality, high-grade, open-pit mine and a longer-term, sizeable underground mine.
Job Description
You will be directly responsible to work proactively with all health and safety team members, project team employees and all business partners to develop, maintain, audit, coach and mentor an integrated health and safety management system and all associated procedures, standards and tools that promotes a strong sensitive safety culture across all areas at Kinross – Great Bear site.
Job Responsibilities
- Proactive identification, coordination, and implementation of initiatives to support a positive sustainability culture.
- Assist in designing and communicating an annual plan for improving health and safety performance.
- Collaborate with all departments to assess risks and opportunity assessments and ensure hazards and appropriate controls are incorporated into work programs.
- Conduct audits, meetings, training and other activities designed to enhance health and safety awareness as prescribed by corporate policies and procedures.
- Lead and assist with the development and implementation of health and safety policies, procedures, guidelines, and training.
- Facilitate incident investigations and ensure investigations are conducted in a fair and transparent manner following company procedures for incident investigations.
- Oversee training activities.
- Liaise with Occupational Health and Safety Committees.
- Promote safety initiatives.
- Organize, develop, review, and revise company policies and procedures.
- In conjunction with site leadership, support interactions with regulatory agencies.
- Work in a healthy work environment with full support, cooperation, and commitment to satisfy our operation’s goal of being accident-free.
- Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
- Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as designed.
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary education in a business or health & safety related program with 3 years’ of directly related experience. Alternately, an individual with a Secondary School Graduation Diploma and a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience may be considered.
Skills
- Solid understanding of surface and underground mining and mining process, and related training requirements.
- Able to clearly and effectively make presentations to large groups.
- Knowledgeable in Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants.
- Adhere to all safety and environmental considerations.
- Possess a strong commitment to safety working practices.
- Observe, correct, and report unsafe conditions.
- Comply with all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Works effectively with minimal supervision.
- Remains focused during challenging situations.
- Self-starter with high initiative.
- Positive attitude with an enthusiastic, outgoing personality.
- Capable of working with and understanding budgets.
- Displays emotional control under stress.

- Excellent computer skills with experience using Intelex or other incident reporting software and Microsoft Office products.

- Possess a valid G driver’s license.

Reports to the Health, Safety, and Security Lead.
