About Thompson Creek Mine
The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometres southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho’s Custer County.
In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.
Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About The Opportunity
We are looking for a detail-orientated Environmental Engineer to join our Thompson Creek team for regulatory compliance support.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Accountable for drafting regulatory reports including but not limited to air, water and soil quality. Also required to review, interpret and comment on consultant technical reports for understanding of and improvement to environmental compliance and permitting.
- Responsible for reviewing and revising site environmental standard operating procedures, management plans and policies. Ensure alignment with permits, site requirements and corporate policies.
- Perform regulatory applicability analysis for new environmental policies or site operational changes.
- Perform site best management practice inspections to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
- Participate in and conduct site remediation, observation, and documentation activities, including monitoring and visual inspection of sites.
- Ensuring field data (e.g., field sheets and notes) are recorded, scanned, and filed in the appropriate place and in a timely manner.
- Assisting with wildlife monitoring programs, including wildlife camera and data management.
- Responding to and documenting any spills, along with keeping the site spill/incident log current Implementing erosion and sediment control best practices and progressive reclamation activities.
- Participate actively in daily pre-job briefings and safety meetings.
- Ensure environmental data bases are up to date and organized in a way that allows for efficient data analysis and reporting.
- Participate in government site inspections to ensure compliance with permits and maintain positive relationships with government representatives.
- Maintain site water balance and ability to modify inputs and outputs and/or work with the appropriate consultant.
About You
To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, hydrology, hydrogeology, environmental engineering, civil engineering, mine engineering, chemical engineering, or other related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years experience with regulatory report writing and environmental inspections.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with government representatives, consultants and other departments at the mine.
- Strong computer skills including experience with PowerPoint, Word and Excel. Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced understanding of mining operations and associated infrastructure as it relates to environmental compliance and monitoring.
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors throughout the year in all weather conditions.
- Ability to drive results and ensure completion of time sensitive deadlines.
- Experience with environmental compliance and monitoring software and databases.
