OPM’s Natural Resources & Energy Portfolio working across a number of rapidly changing markets in extractives and energy is growing. We are looking to recruit dynamic and talented consultants into three different roles.
Do you have a keen interest in developing your skills and experience within the fields of renewable energy services in developing countries and across extractives’ potential to contribute to development outcomes? Then you could be our new Natural Resources and Energy Consultant! This role will provide the opportunity to work across projects in energy and extractives, providing technical input whilst also having the opportunity to strengthen essential consulting skills such as project management and business development.
Your key responsibilities and tasks as a Consultant
• Engage in highly technical work whilst also playing various project management roles, requiring flexibility, sensitivity and strong financial acumen, communications flair and people skills.
• Deliver technical inputs, take on project management responsibilities on small and medium sized projects.
• Undertake technical consultancy work on a range of policy related issues, acquisition of new business opportunities and working closely with relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure the effective and efficient implementation of projects in the Natural Resources and Energy portfolio.
• Undertake assignments that seek to understand the potential impacts of development projects, sectors, or public investments to support effective policy decision-making.
• Contribute to the development of the company more widely through sharing knowledge and expertise and contributing ideas to a dynamic knowledge base that promotes more efficient and effective outcomes.

• The Facility for Oil Sector Transformation (FOSTER 2): a 5-year DFID extractives governance programme that work to achieve more effective use of Nigeria’s extractive industries to support national development. We are working to identify additional extractive industries revenue and strengthen the management of the sectors, while also working to inform and engage local communities affected by the oil and gas sector in the country – check out the programme website link
• Ghana Oil and Gas for Inclusive Growth (GOGIG): a 5-year DFID extractives governance programme that supports Ghana in maximising the potential of the oil and gas sector to promote inclusive, broad-based economic growth and poverty reduction. We work to address policy and legislative gaps, while strengthening the capacity of government institutions and oversight actors to deliver a well-managed petroleum sector – check out the programme website link
Our Natural Resources and Energy team has a strong background in delivering projects for a range of organisations including donors, governments and the private sector. The portfolio design, review and implement effective policies, strategies and plans in the energy sector. We believe our success is based on a unique combination of analytical and practical support across the policy cycle, from planning to investment options and further to impact evaluation. Our broad expertise in the sectors covers areas such as utilisation of fossil fuels for power generation and transport, extractives governance issues, renewable energy solutions, securing more inclusive access to energy and climate change adaptation measures.
• A degree and post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline, (sustainability in energy, energy governance, private sector development, environmental resources, economics, extractives governance, economics, development economics);
• Good understanding of donor markets such as DFID, World Bank, IFC, MCC, SIDA, NORAD, etc.
• Experience and understanding of energy and/or extractives-related issues relevant to economic and social development;
• Excellent research and analytical skills to provide effective technical inputs into projects, programmes and work streams;
• Experience working in developing countries.

• Use time effectively, able to manage competing priorities with a focus on delivery.
Conditions for the employment
The position is full-time and based in our office in Oxford, UK, and will require work-related travel to Africa, Asia and other international locations. We offer a very flexible working environment where remote working is possible, as well as the level of travel vary from position to position.
