Young Person’s Lecture Competition
(Western Australia, Australia & World)

The Western Australian branch of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) organises the Young Persons’ Lecture Competition (YPLC) in Australia.

The event is a great opportunity for students and young professionals to learn valuable presentation and communication skills in a pressured, yet friendly environment. Effective technical communication skills are invaluable to young people pursuing a career in industry, academia, non-profits or government.

The competition is open to anyone under the age of 28 who can present an interesting 15 minute lecture on materials, minerals, mining, packaging, clay technology or wood science.

The competitors are judged on the quality of their abstract, structure of the lecture, standard of the presentation, visual aids and physical examples, technical content, ability to handle questions and time-keeping. Judging is carried out by local (and sometimes international) members of the IOM3.

The winner receives a small cash prize and an expenses paid trip to the World Final, which was in Ireland in 2015, Brazil in 2016 and will be in Perth, Australia in 2017.

We are looking for volunteers and entrants from all over Australia. Please contact the organiser John Sykes (john.sykes@greenfieldsresearch.com) if you are interested.

Local IOM3 members, lecturers, employers, co-workers, students and other interested parties are encouraged to attend and support the entrants.
