CCSI hiring legal researcher on natural resources and sustainable development
The Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment is now hiring a legal researcher to support the Center’s workstreams on natural resources and sustainable development. The incumbent will focus primarily on the Center’s work on Extractive Industries and Sustainable Development, but will also be asked to contribute to the workstream on Investment in Land and Agriculture. Specifically, the incumbent will contribute to new and ongoing projects, technical advisory work and research related to legal frameworks for promoting sustainable development from major investments in natural resources globally. This includes research and advisory work on regulations and contracts related to local content, infrastructure, fiscal regimes, community rights, environment, human rights and other related policy issues.
The position must be based in New York with the ability to travel. PhD, SJD, JD or LLM in Economics, Law, Development, or other related field, and more than three years of relevant experience required. Experience working with Governments on relevant fields of natural resource development strongly preferred. The position requires a willingness to learn new areas and to work in a highly interdisciplinary, flexible, and dynamic environment. Excellent interpersonal, organization, research and communication skills required as well as a high degree of initiative and independent judgment, motivation and ability to think strategically. Fluency in English required and proficiency in a second language preferred.
